Village Hall

The Village Hall is having some long overdue upgrades this year.  The fantastically successful coffee mornings and warm spaces initiative by Linda Aston has shown the real need for an update to the kitchen.  The wall between the kitchen and the store-room is to be removed and the kitchen completely renewed and expanded to include that space.

The contents of the store-room are to go outside to the new and much larger shed with grateful thanks to the contribution from our next-door neighbours.

The great success of the outdoor events such as the Queen’s Jubilee and then the King’s Coronation showed the real need for another door straight from the kitchen outside to the garden.  This will be part of the kitchen renovation scheme.

For many years the Parish Council has been trying to get some play equipment for youngsters in the village.  The only land that the Parish Council currently owns is at Tillbrooks Hill but a scheme to put some equipment there was voted down by the inhabitants there.  There is now a new scheme to put a single piece of equipment in the garden at the Village Hall.  The land-owner has very kindly offered to let the Parish Council have the garden land there so that will be the obvious place for it.  Space is restricted there but we believe we may have enough to put a small combined unit there.  There is an overhead power cable across the garden so height is also restricted somewhat.

The Village Hall suffers from poor acoustics with reverberation which makes it somewhat hard for those with reduced hearing and, particularly, the elderly to hear when things are busy in the hall.  So a number of acoustics panels that are attached to the hall walls have been purchased and these will be put up during the Summer/Autumn 2023.

The lighting in the Hall is certainly due an update being the old flourescent tubes!  When the kitchen is being updated the lighting will also be too.
